Your Marriage License Guide for Mecklenburg County, Charlotte NC
How to Get Your Marriage License in Mecklenburg County
Everything you need to know before saying I do! What documents to bring, when to apply…we’re breaking down the marriage license process step-by-step so it feels simple, stress-free, and one less thing to worry about before the big day.
When to Apply
Your marriage license is valid for 60 days from the date it’s issued, so don’t apply too early! Apply about 3 weeks before the wedding to give yourselves some buffer while still staying within the valid timeframe.
Good to Know
There is no waiting period in North Carolina, so you could actually get married the same day you receive your license…but we don’t recommend it. Don’t wait, in case there are document issues, name discrepancies, or appointment delays.
Your license can be used anywhere in North Carolina, regardless of which county issued it.
The signed marriage license must be returned after the ceremony to make it all official. Typically, your officiant handles this! Or, if you hire us…we do ;)
